Edit a component on a page

Purpose

This training document gives instructions for editing a component on a page. A Sitecore page is made up of editable blocks called ‘components’. You may wish to edit a component if you’d like to change an attribute, such as the colour, background image, or the text that a component contains.

Find the page you want to edit

  1. Log into Sitecore using your credentials.
  2. For instructions on finding the page you want to edit, click here.
  3. Select the page you want to edit in the Content Editor.
  4. Access Experience Editor by selecting ‘Publish’ in the top navigation, and then ‘Experience Editor’.

Editing a component

  1. Select the component that you want to edit on the page. You will know that you are hovering over a component when your mouse changes to look like a hand with a pointing finger.
  2. Click ‘More’ on the menu that has opened.
  3. Click ‘Edit component properties’.
  4. You can adjust the settings of the component such as the position, background color and image focus here by scrolling down to the ‘Panel settings’ section and selecting which option you’d like to edit. Press OK when you’re finished. (note: These features are only available on some components. Other components may have other editable options).
  5. When you have finished editing, click the save icon in the top navigation ribbon. 
  6. You can also make changes to the text on some components in the Experience Editor.

Editing the items inside a component

  1. Some components have list items that are only editable in the Content Editor. To find out where the items are located in the Content Editor, open Experience Editor and select the component that you’d like to edit.
  2. Select More > Edit component properties.
  3. Make note of the Data Source location.
  4. Follow the location structure above in the content tree of the content editor.
  5. When you reach the panel location in the content editor, you can update which lists appear for this component under Details > Points.
  6. If you would like to edit any of these lists and cannot do so in the Experience Editor, search for the name of the list in the content editor search bar and select the item from there.
  7. You can then edit the values for this list item under ‘Content’.
